Melissa R. Strom is an interdisciplinary artist based in the New York City metropolitan area. She earned her BFA from Moravian University in Studio Art and Graphic and Interactive Design in 2021. Her practice dismantles ideas about mental health, relationships, music, and everyday life, as well as an array of social and political injustices, via paint and assemblage. Patterns, light, and text are important aspects of her work, and she continues exploring approaches to forming, altering, and handling these components.
Her undergraduate honors thesis titled The Role of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Strategies in Promoting Effective Communication and Confidence in Artists demonstrates how mindfulness tactics have played a role in her process. She is interested in investigating how behavioral patterns and communication styles are affected by generational experiences. Her work reflects these themes through usage of varying materials and found objects.
In addition to maintaining an active studio practice, Melissa is the Manager of Pre-Press for Screen Printing at an apparel shop in Pennsylvania.
